Arab states put bases at US disposal for strike on Syria

February 4, 2014 at 9:56 am

US Secretary of State John Kerry has revealed that three countries in the Middle East have already offered the use of their military bases for military action against Syria. Kerry told members of the Democratic Party in the US Congress that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey have announced their support for a military operation against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. He expects others to follow suit.

The secretary of state pointed out that since President Obama announced his intention to launch a military strike on the regime in Damascus, not only has Congress given the go-ahead but there have also been around 100 defections from the Syrian Army.

Republican Senator John McCain, a former presidential candidate, described any Congress opposition to such a strike as a “disaster” that will harm the credibility of the United States as well as the president.
