US Senate to support Israel if it attacks Iran

February 4, 2014 at 10:38 am

The Committee of Foreign Affairs in the US Senate have approved a draft resolution that affirms the US aim of banning Iran from owning nuclear weapons and announces its support for Israel if it decides to carry out a military attack alone.

Elshaab, an Egyptian newspaper, said that the draft resolution states: “In this case [a unilateral Israeli attack on Iran], the US will offer all potential and necessary assistance to be able to defend its citizens and its existence.”

The decision, which was approved by the support of pro-Israel lobbies, is not abiding on the US administration, unless it is approved by the complete board of the US Senate and Congress.
