US to establish nuclear energy cooperation with Israel

February 4, 2014 at 11:49 am

Yesterday morning (07/07), Hebrew media sources claimed to have discovered a ‘secret’ US letter of guarantee to the Israeli government in which Washington undertakes to establish nuclear energy cooperation with Israel.

In a broadcast by the Hebrew Army radio station, it was stated that “the United States had sent Israel a ‘secret’ letter of guarantee in which it pledges to establish nuclear energy cooperation between the two sides for civilian purposes, despite the fact that Israel has not signed the international Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty.”

It reported that the US had “vowed in the letter to sell Israel fissile material that may be used to generate electricity as well as technology and various other equipment. Similarly the US administration had promised Israel to use new expressions in its public statements which confirm that Israel is a responsible state that exercises restraint with respect to their capabilities.”

This comes on the heels of US president Barack Obama’s refutation of media claims that the United States would pressure Israel into signing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. At a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Obama proclaimed that “the United States would never ask Israel to undertake anything that puts its security at risk.”
