Abu Zuhri: Egyptian interior minister's accusations are unfounded

February 5, 2014 at 1:11 am

The Islamic resistance movement Hamas has strongly denied the accusations of Egyptian Interior Minister Mohammad Ibrahim, who is claiming that Hamas provided military training in the Gaza Strip for members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood.

Dr Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesperson for Hamas, issued a written statement that was received by the Palestinian Information Centre, in which he said: “The accusations of the Egyptian interior minister against Hamas, suggesting that it had provided logistical support to the Dakahlia bombers, are false and unfounded accusations.”

Last week, Egypt’s interim government designated the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organisation one day after a bomb exploded at a police headquarters in the Egyptian city of Mansoura in the Dakahlia Governorate. The Muslim Brotherhood strongly denounced the attack and denied any involvement. An unrelated group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Abu Zuhri confirmed that the accusations raised by the Egyptian minister of interior “are an attempt to mislead the people and export the internal Egyptian crisis”.
