Egyptian police arrest Palestinians "for Hamas membership"

A number of Palestinians have been arrested by Egyptian police while travelling through Cairo. The men have been charged with "membership of Hamas".

A spokesman for the Islamic Resistance Movement, Dr Sami Abu Zuhri, said that one of those arrested was picked up while heading for Turkey to visit his father. Both are ex-detainees of the Israelis. Another man, Hazim Al-Bazz, was on his way to defend his PhD thesis.

Abu Zuhri called for the release of all Palestinian prisoners held by Egypt and for the security agencies to end such an "unacceptable" practice.
