Egyptian security forces close Tahrir Square as Morsi's trial begins

February 5, 2014 at 2:11 am

Egyptian security forces have closed Tahrir Square to vehicles and pedestrians to prevent mass protests developing in the square.

A joint Egyptian army and police force prevented cars and pedestrians, including employees of the Tahrir complex, from entering the square.

The tight security measures are taken as Egypt’s former President, Mohammed Morsi, appears, for the first time, on trial at the police academy headquarters, since his ousting from power by the military coup.
