A prominent leader of the Muslim Brotherhood has called for Egyptian students to put their differences aside and to work together to confront the "fascist military coup".
Dr Essam El-Erian appeared in a video broadcast by Al-Jazeera TV on Sunday evening as university students are set to begin the new school year.
"I hail your persistence," El-Erian said. "I call upon you to unite as one body against the military coup, against the fascist coup."
He also called upon the students to produce a new reformation of ideas in order to "lead the population against the fascist coup in order to save Egypt."
