In a new leak aired by the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera Mubashir Misr on Thursday, Egyptian Minister of Defence Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, during a meeting in an army club on December 20, 2012, warned that there could be a potential civil war in Egypt if the military intervened in politics.

In the recording, Al-Sisi stated that, “The best thing for the army is to stay outside the [political] equation,” He continued: “Imagine a military tank deployed in the street and an armed [soldier] facing 200 or 300 [protesters] and shooting them, using fake bullets. Guess how many would die under others’ feet if the crowd [tries to escape the fake bullets], let alone using live ammunition?”

Moreover, Al-Sisi recommended that the army should stand at an equal distance from everyone, because “any bias towards a particular group would [destroy] our country”.
