Pro-coup politician says Ashton is Muslim Brotherhood spokeswoman

Egyptian Salvation Front spokesman, Azzazi Ali Azzazi, has said that the EU foreign policy chief Catharine Ashton is an overseas spokesperson for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Speaking to local Egyptian TV, al-Tahrir, Azzazi, whose group has been supporting the military coup, said that “sister Ashton” was a spokesperson for the organisation.

The comment comes after US president Barack Obama was accused of being a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood and his brother Hussein of running commercial activities for the group.

Such remarks provoked hilarity amongst Egyptians and other activists on social media.
