February 5, 2014 at 10:23 am

An Israeli security envoy arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for a short visit that only lasted for several hours. This is the second visit of an Israeli envoy to Cairo within seven days.

A security official at Cairo International Airport said that the Israeli envoy arrived with a delegation of six officials on a private plane from Tel Aviv. The source did not disclose any further information about the delegation’s identity.

The source explained that, “the delegation is scheduled to meet with a number of Egyptian security officials to discuss the developments in Sinai in north eastern Egypt, where Egyptian security forces have launched a campaign against ‘terrorist groups’. The two parties will exchange information and coordinate security measures on Egypt’s eastern border to face infiltration and smuggling.”

Last Wednesday, Cairo received an Israeli envoy who arrived on a private jet accompanied by two aides. They visited Cairo for several hours. During the visit, the envoy met with a number of Egyptian security officials to discuss developments in Sinai. The identity of the officials was not disclosed.

Israeli radio initially reported the envoy’s visit.

But Israeli media also reports that the Israeli army and Foreign Ministry have denied Egyptian media reports of the identity of last week’s delegation, saying it was not Israeli.
