Egypt's interim president says our patience with Turkey 'is about to run out'

Spokesman of Egypt’s interim president, Ehab Badawi, said “Egypt’s patience with Turkey is running out”. Badawi made his statement in an apparent reference to Turkey’s official statements which oppose the ousting of Egypt’s president, Mohamed Morsi, in a military coup.

In a press conference held on Sunday at the presidency’s headquarters in Cairo, Badawi pointed out that “Egypt views its relations with Turkey from a wider perspective” stressing that there are “strong ties between the Egyptian and Turkish people.

Official Egyptian-Turkish relations have grown tense following Turkey’s stance since the ousting of President Morsi. Turkey described the Egyptian army’s appointment of an interim president as a “military coup against legitimacy”. The Egyptian army considers the move to have been an “answer to the popular will.”
