Police close Al-Jazeera bureau in Cairo

February 7, 2014 at 3:21 pm

Police in Cairo have closed the Al-Jazeera bureau in the city and arrested two employees. Tweets from colleagues confirmed that they have been banned from covering events in Egypt and are not allowed to go into their office.

Privately-owned media in Egypt affiliated to the disgraced Mubarak regime have been waging a campaign against Al-Jazeera in recent weeks. Government officials have blocked Al-Jazeera’s signal in order to prevent it from broadcasting to the world what has happened in Egypt since the military coup against the government of President Morsi.
