Egypt condemns new Israeli settlement units in Occupied Jerusalem

February 8, 2014 at 4:45 am

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the decision to build new housing units in an illegal settlement south of Occupied Jerusalem. Spokesman Badr Abdel Atti said that the decision by the Israeli-led Jerusalem Municipality’s Local Planning Committee to build 65 housing units in the Har Homa settlement built on Jabal Abu Ghneim is yet another flagrant violation of international laws and conventions by Israel. It is prohibited for an occupying power to make changes to the demography of territory occupied or controlled through acts of war.

Abdel Atti repeated Egypt’s uncompromising stance denouncing all Israeli settlement activity, a main obstacle on the road to peace the continuation of which renders the two-state solution practically impossible to achieve. He called on the Israeli government to halt all settlement activity as a matter of urgency and for the international community to assume its responsibility in this matter.
