Egypt denies entry to Nobel Peace laureate

February 8, 2014 at 2:47 am

Nobel Peace laureate and human rights activist Tawakkol Karman has been refused entry into Egypt by the authorities at Cairo International Airport. Ms Karman was advised that she is persona non grata and blacklisted by the security agencies.

A post on her official Twitter account said that the peace prize winner was detained at the airport and prevented from joining the pro-legitimacy protest in Rabaa Al-Adawiyya Square.

Security sources in Cairo have since confirmed that Ms Karman has left Egypt on the same aircraft on which she arrived.
