Egyptian Speaker says Bahrain's security is Egypt's security

The Speaker of the Egyptian Shura Council, parliament’s upper house, said on Monday that Bahrain’s security is part and parcel of Egypt’s national security. Dr Ahmad Fahmy made his statement as he arrived in the Bahraini capital Manama to participate in a conference of the Association of Senates, Shura Councils and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World.

According to Bahrain’s News Agency, Dr Fahmy said that Egypt looks to the common ground for national security which bonds Cairo to Gulf, Arab and Islamic capitals.

“Any rapprochement between post-revolutionary Egypt and any other country takes place within the context of Egyptian, Gulf or Arab security,” said the Speaker. “Egypt is committed to build within the framework of loyalties based on faith affiliations, Arabism or common humanity.”

Fahmi said that these issues were reflected by clear and strong statements by Egypt’s President Mohamed Morsi.
