Senior politician condemns coup leaders for shameful allegations against Morsi

A senior Egyptian politician has condemned coup leaders for what he describes as the shameful allegations against ousted President Mohammed Morsi. “It is illogical to accuse the president of espionage,” said Ayman Nour, chairman of Ghad Althawra Party, “not least because the Muslim Brotherhood still resists the Israeli occupation.”

In a media statement, Mr Nour pointed out that the deep state of the Mubarak regime is still in control of all state institutions in Egypt. “We are still living in the pre-revolution era,” he claimed.

He noted that the regime in power today is a mix of the military, the remnants of the former regime and some of those who participated in January 25 Revolution. “The latter will regret the day when they decided to stand by the side of the military regime,” he warned.

Nour sent a message to the Egyptian army that its mission is to protect Egypt’s territory and sovereignty from its enemies and foreign predators, “and we want a strong army for Egypt, not an Egypt for the army”.

He shrugged off the arrest order issued against him: “I am no longer afraid, having been to prison five times already.”
