Livni: Palestinian negotiating team's resignation violates its commitments

February 10, 2014 at 2:01 pm

Israeli Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, who represents Israel in the current negotiations with the Palestinian Authority, has suggested that the resignation of the Palestinian negotiation team constitutes a violation of the commitments that the PA had taken upon itself.

Livni stressed that the negotiations must continue, calling on the Palestinian side not to take every opportunity to halt the negotiation process.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had announced on Wednesday that the Palestinian negotiators resigned in protest to the lack of progress in the US-sponsored negotiations, which have been overshadowed by Israel’s continued settlement construction in the occupied territories.

During an interview with the Egyptian TV Channel CBC, Abbas hinted that the negotiations will not stop as the Palestinian Authority will either convince the team to reverse its decision or it could appoint a new team.
