Muslim scholars call to support Jerusalem on Friday

February 10, 2014 at 12:31 pm

The International Union for Muslim Scholars has urged all Muslims around the world to consider Friday a special day to support Jerusalem, the Al-Aqsa mosque and the steadfastness of Palestinians living in Jerusalem, by talking about them in Friday sermons, lectures and seminars and by praying for them. The union urged Muslims to make every effort to protect Jerusalem from temporal and spatial division.

In a statement on Thursday, the union warned of the serious consequences of Israel’s ongoing attacks and injustices against the Palestinians and their holy sites and denounced Israel’s policy towards Jerusalem.

The statement said: “In a dangerous development that aims to Judaise Jerusalem, the Israeli occupation authorities have introduced a law to facilitate violating the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque by dividing it in time and space. Israel wants to allow Jews to desecrate the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque against the will of Muslims and Jerusalemites, in particular, and in full breach of international norms and conventions, including UN and UNESCO resolutions on the protection of holy sites under occupation.”
