Assad may have concealed chemical weapons

The CNN has reported that US sources with access to intelligence on Syria as saying that the US is studying new classified intelligence which suggests that President Bashar al-Assad’s regime may have concealed chemical weapons from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW.)

The U.S. official told the network “there are various threads of information that would shake our confidence. They have done things recently that suggest Syria is not ready to get rid of all their chemical weapons”. The US officials said “the intelligence is not definitive. Teams from U.S. intelligence agencies, the Defence Department, the State Department and the White House are all reviewing the information”.

The officials did not reveal how they obtained the intelligence, however the majority of reports are usually obtained through satellite images and intercepted phone calls between military officials in the Syrian army.
