Syrian National Council to boycott Geneva II conference

February 11, 2014 at 12:18 pm

The Syrian National Council has announced that it will not participate in the Geneva II conference aimed at finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria. Sky News quoted the Syrian opposition group’s leader, George Sabra, threatening to withdraw from the National Coalition Council if the NCC decides to take part in the discussions.

According to Sabra, the Council, which is the largest political bloc in the coalition, made its decision based on the current situation in Syria. “This means that the Council will not remain in the coalition if it decides to go to Geneva,” he added.

The National Coalition Council said earlier that it is ready to go to Geneva II provided that an agreement has been reached on the formation of a transitional government.
