Gaza crisis deepens as Egypt closes border and tunnels

The crisis engulfing the Gaza Strip has deepened following the closure of the Rafah Border Crossing and many of the lifeline tunnels by the Egyptian coup authorities. Fuel supplies in particular are being hit very badly by the move.

According to the Environmental Quality Authority in Gaza, the fuel crisis threatens to close almost 200 petrol stations in the besieged territory upon which most Palestinians rely.

Sewage treatment plants also face closure due to the shortage of sufficient diesel to drive the pumps. The authority pointed out that the shortages mean that raw sewage will accumulate and create an environmental disaster, with serious pollution along the Palestinian coast of the Gaza Strip.
