Illiteracy is the lowest among Palestinians

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said on Sunday that the illiteracy rate in Palestine is among the lowest in the world.

According to PCBS statistics, illiteracy among Palestinians above the age of 15 years is only 4.1 per cent. This rate is 1.8 per cent among males and 6.4 per cent among females.


To mark the international day for eliminating illiteracy, the PCBS issued a reported saying that the illiterate population in Palestine is 104,487.

According to the report, 71,862 of those who are illiterate live in the urban areas, 22,041 in the rural areas and 10,584 in the refugee camps.

The number of illiterates aged between 15 and 64 years is 43,429, and the number among those older than 65 years is 61,058.
