Qatari ambassador denies evacuating nationals from Jordan

Qatar's Ambassador to Jordan, Zayed Bin Saeed Al-Khiyarein, has denied claims that his country has evacuated its nationals from the country because of the crisis in Syria. Al-Khiyarein told Jordan's Petra News Agency on Saturday that the reports are baseless.

He explained that the extra Qatar Airways flights from Amman were operated in order to facilitate the return of Qataris to Doha in time for the start of the new school year next week. The usual single flight per day between Amman and Doha was insufficient to cater for the demand, said the ambassador.

He pointed out that Qataris have been visiting Jordan in greater numbers recently due to the country's stability and safety. Talks are under way, added Al-Khiyarein, for additional flights to be a regular feature of the links between Jordan and Qatar.
