Sharon undergoes abdominal surgery whilst in coma

The Israeli media reported on Wednesday that Israel’s former Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, has undergone a surgical procedure in the abdomen on Tuesday whilst still at “a minimum level of consciousness.”

Sharon underwent the scheduled surgery at the Sheba medical centre near Tel Aviv, to improve the performance of his digestive feeding device. He was later transferred to the intensive care unit.

It is expected that Sharon will be returned to respiratory care and rehabilitation unit, where he has been treated for years.

Sharon, 85 years old, suffered a stroke in early 2006, while serving as Israel’s prime minister, which left him comatose.

In 2010, Sharon’s family returned him to his ranch in the Negev in southern Israel, but eventually returned him to Sheba medical centre where he is being treated.
