The Egyptian army has reinforced its presence along the border with the Gaza Strip, ordering more tanks and armoured vehicles to the area to guard watch towers and barracks. Media sources in Rafah confirmed the arrival of five tanks for the first time in many years in addition to two armoured vehicles carrying heavy weapons.
The reinforcements are spread along the border and were sent as part of a major security alert following the coup against President Morsi last week and the subsequent closure of the Rafah border crossing.
