UNIFIL commander blames Israel for breaching ceasefire with Lebanon

February 13, 2014 at 2:56 am

The commander of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Hugo Delort-Laval, has blamed Israel for breaching the ceasefire between the two countries on more occasions than its northern neighbour, Israel Radio said on Wednesday. General Delort-Labal was speaking to students at Tel Aviv University when he made his remarks.

“Israeli aircraft fly in the Lebanese skies from eight to ten hours a day,” said Delort-Laval. “One third of their flights take place in areas that are far from the borders of both countries and in north Lebanon.”

Israeli Radio said that the UNIFIL commander’s comments came in the wake of tension between Israel and Syria over air strikes on targets deep in Syrian territory earlier this year.
