Palestinians condemn motor race in occupied Jerusalem

Palestinian groups have condemned the organisation of an international motor race, including a Ferrari team, under the umbrella of so-called Jerusalem of Peace events. The race is to be sponsored by Russia’s Kaspersky Lab computer security company and the route will take the cars from West Jerusalem around by the walls of the Old City.

According to the Palestinian Sports Federation in Jerusalem, the race is part of Israel’s attempts to Judaise the city and present it as the “undivided capital” of the occupation state.

A spokesman said that many of those taking part will have no idea about the political and social reality created by Israel’s occupation of Jerusalem and the effect it has on the Palestinians. House demolitions and ethnic cleansing are the daily reality for Palestinians who are subjected to human rights violations by the Israeli occupation forces and illegal Jewish settlers.
