The Peace Club for the Disabled in Gaza have recently implemented new projects funded by UNDP international donors and other organisations including a project to convert wheelchairs that run on electrically charged batteries, to solar energy.

The project is being implemented by the Horse Port Company which has already converted 21 wheelchairs.

Disabled residents of the beleaguered Sector have expressed overwhelming joy and support for the project, particularly given that one of the main difficulties they face are the daily electrical power cuts that plague the Gaza Strip. These blackouts last for up to ten hours making it extremely difficult for wheelchairs users to re-charge their wheelchairs.

The project promises to significantly improve quality of life for disabled individuals in the Gaza Strip.
