China continues to insist that dialogue and negotiations are the only way to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue, pointing out that Iran, as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes while respecting relevant international obligations.

The spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hua Chun Ying, said on Thursday, “Blind sanctions will not help in solving the case and the use of force would not be acceptable.” Explaining that the events of the past year have shown that maintaining and reinforcing negotiations will help in resolving the issue properly and comprehensively, she cited the recent talks in Kazakhstan “which have resulted in effective results”.

The Chinese official added that her country believes that the parties concerned should increase their diplomatic efforts in a flexible and practical manner while launching early and real negotiations.

On a related issue, China expressed its support for Yukiya Amano’s second term as Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which has been confirmed by the IAEA Board of Governors.

Hua said that China hopes that the Agency will continue to achieve all its tasks under the leadership of Amano while playing a fair, objective and constructive role. She pointed out that the Chinese will continue to increase cooperation with the IAEA.
