Gaza government renews call for Egypt to put pressure on Israel to stop truce violations

February 15, 2014 at 1:16 pm

The Hamas-led Palestinian government in Gaza has renewed its call for Egypt to intervene with Israel in order to end violations of last November’s truce conditions. The ceasefire agreement which ended Israel’s 8-day offensive against the civilians of the Gaza Strip was mediated by the Egyptian government.

A spokesman for Hamas, Ihab El-Ghusain, referred specifically to a raid launched by Israeli fighter aircraft against targets in the west of Gaza City today (Wednesday). The Israelis, said El-Ghusain, are breaking the truce by air, land and sea. He pointed out that the violations began by Israel targeting Palestinian fishermen off the coast of Gaza and reducing the unilaterally-imposed fishing limit from 6 to 3 nautical miles. Incursions by Israeli armoured bulldozers have also occurred on a number of occasions since the truce was signed.

An Israeli missile hit a Palestinian motorcyclist yesterday, killing Haitham El-Meshal, aged 29, and wounding another man.
