Israel will not "stand idle" over Syria

February 15, 2014 at 1:27 pm

Israel has warned the UN Security Council that it will not “stand idle” as the war in Syria spills over the border. The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Ron Prosor, complained in a letter to the Security Council about artillery shells coming into Israel from Syria.

Prosor said in his letter that Israel should not be expected to stand idle while the lives of Israeli citizens are at risk as a result of “the Syrian government’s reckless actions”.

Minister of Defence Ehud Barak, meanwhile, said that the attack on “a Syrian arms complex” on January 30 showed that Israel was serious about preventing the flow of heavy weapons into Lebanon. This was the first official indication that Israel carried out the attack.
