Tunisia’s Foreign Minister, Rafik Abdul Salam, has announced that his government does not object to the involvement of international parties in the investigation of opposition figure Chokri Bileid’s assassination.

In an interview with the Al-Arabiya news station on Tuesday, Abdul Salam said that “Those who killed Chokri Bileid have an interest in creating crises and tension in the country.” He stressed that neither the Ennahda party nor the current government would benefit from Bileid’s assassination.

He also clarified that the Ennahda party had not used violence even in the most difficult situations it faced. He pointed out that Tunisia has overcome the hardest phase and that it could have possibly slipped into chaos.

The Tunisian Foreign Minister also emphasized that the Ennahda party, to which he belongs, wants a political government in the next phase explaining that “there are different opinions regarding the government of national competencies, and what we want now is to form a political government.”
