Israeli Defence Minister, Ehud Barak, flew to the Greek capital of Athens on Tuesday as part of an official visit to discuss bilateral security cooperation.
Israel Radio reported that Barak would meet a number of senior Greek officials, including his counterpart, Dimitris Avramopoulos, to discuss strategies for boosting military cooperation between the two countries.
Barak’s visit to Greece is the fourth by a senior Israeli official in less than 17 months. Israel is currently seeking an alternative “strategic partner” in the region following the 2010 breakdown in diplomatic relations with Turkey and the demise of the Mubarak regime in Egypt.
