Coptic intellectual: Islamists are deep-rooted in Egyptian society

February 17, 2014 at 1:50 am

Coptic intellectual Dr Rafiq Habib said on Monday that the Islamic forces could not be undermined as they are have leaders with massive deep-rooted popularity in Egyptian society. They are, said Dr. Habib, “inseparable” from society, something that protects them from a secular coup d’etat.

Writing on his Facebook page, Habib noted that the Islamic option is not only that of the Islamic tendency, but is now also the mainstream choice in society. “The Islamists in power are not the exclusive representatives of the Islamic trend,” he said. “The nation is the party which decides the nature of the Islamic power that is ruling it.”

Habib said that the attempts to “discredit the Islamists” by secularists and liberals will be countered by even more loyalty to them. “As such, the secularist powers have opted to try to paralyse the whole political process and democratic change itself, but because of the Islamic dominance they will fail.”
