Egypt denies exchange of letters with Israeli president

February 17, 2014 at 11:18 pm

A spokesman for the Egypt’s President Morsi has denied claims that he received a congratulatory letter from Israeli President Shimon Peres, and that he sent a reply. Dr Yasser Ali said that President Morsi received neither a letter of congratulations for winning the election nor on the occasion of Ramadan from Mr. Peres.

A letter being circulated on Facebook and Twitter is, insisted Dr. Ali, “a forgery” about which Morsi “knows nothing”.

Two newspapers in Israel published a copy of the letter; Yedioth Ahronoth and Ma’rev claimed that it was sent from President Morsi to his Israeli counterpart.
