Gaza welcomes UN investigation into Israeli drone attacks

February 17, 2014 at 1:50 am

The Palestinian Ministry of Justice in Gaza has welcomed the United Nations decision to open an investigation into the use of drones by the Israeli occupation forces and other countries in so-called targeted assassinations. As it is believed that such operations amount to murder, that would require the prosecution and trial of Israeli leaders as war criminals, the ministry insists.

A ministry statement claimed that “hundreds” of Palestinians have been killed by Israeli drone attacks in Gaza alone. It is calling for the International Criminal Court and UN General Assembly to take legal action against the Israelis, citing the threat to international peace and security.

According to Haaretz newspaper on Sunday, the UN will investigate the use of Israel drones in targeted assassinations against Palestinian “militants”, noting that the investigation will cover the use of drones by Britain and the US as well as Israel.
