The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has condemned strongly the serious aggression carried out by Israeli forces on the Gaza Strip, which have led to at least 18 Palestinians being killed, with many more wounded. Professor Ihsanoglu said that such military escalation is a heinous crime and a blatant violation of international law which threatens the security and stability of the entire region.

The OIC chief issued a press statement holding Israel responsible for the consequences of the escalation of violence arising from its aggression and the war crimes that it commits against the Palestinian people. He called on the Security Council, the United Nations and the Quartet to assume their responsibilities in full, intervene as a matter of urgency and compel Israel to respect international law.
