The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, strongly condemned a draft law that declares the city of Jerusalem as “the capital of Israel and the Jewish people”, considering it as a direct assault on the Palestinian people and their inalienable and clear rights.”
In a press statement issued on Monday, December 26, Ihsanoglu said: “The legislative and administrative measures taken by the Israeli occupation in order to change the legal status of the occupied city of Jerusalem, is a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions which affirm that Jerusalem is part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 “, and emphasized that all such actions are void and illegal.
He called upon the UN Security Council, the Quartet, UNESCO and all the influential actors to intervene in order to “stop the Israeli policies of racial discrimination against the Palestinian people and the Palestinian sanctities, reject such invalid legislation and not recognize it, and to compel Israel to respect the rules of international law and abide by the resolutions of international legitimacy,” he said.
