Parliamentarians from the Change and Reform bloc have held a vigil on front of the parliament building in Ramallah in solidarity with the Speaker, Dr Aziz Dweik, who was abducted by the Israelis last week. The parliamentarians denounced the abduction and detention of Dr Dweik.

Stressing the need to implement the terms of the national reconciliation agreement and unite Palestinian ranks to confront Israel’s continuing aggression, the parliamentarians also called on the international community to take urgent steps to secure the release of Dr. Dweik and the 21 other parliamentarians held in Israeli jails. They pointed out that the natural response to the abduction of their Speaker was to convene an emergency session of the parliament to debate the Israeli action.

They urged the Palestinian Authority and its President, Mahmoud Abbas, to halt the current negotiations with the Israeli occupation authorities, return to the fold of the Palestinian people and release political prisoners being held in PA jails.
