Israel issues demolition notices to Palestinians in the Jordan Valley

February 17, 2014 at 11:18 pm

The Israeli occupation authorities have issued demolition notices to Palestinians in the northern Jordan Valley area, informing them that their homes and farms are going to be knocked-down. According to the chairman of the Local Council in Wadi Al Maleh and Bedouin villages, the residents have been given notice that the demolitions will start no later than 9th August.

Aref Daraghmeh told Quds Press that Israeli soldiers swept into the area accompanied by officers from Israel’s Planning and Building Committee to hand out the notices in Khirbet Al Maita and Hammamat for the demolition of homes, tents, and barns. He accused the Israelis of putting pressure on local residents to evacuate the area “on the pretext that it is near to an army camp”.

It was pointed out that the villages were there long before the Israeli army came along, but such facts carry little weight in Israel.
