Israel issues more house demolition orders to Jerusalemites in Silwan

February 17, 2014 at 11:16 pm

The Israeli authorities, represented by the Municipality of Jerusalem, have issued several court decisions on the fate of Palestinian homes in the occupied city. These include demolition orders for a number of houses in the Bustan neighbourhood of Silwan, south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Fakhri Abu Diab, the Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Silwan, has said that Israeli forces are currently imposing a blockade on the region and that the Municipal crews, accompanied by military forces, have raided several homes. The raid on the house of one Jibreel El -Taweel was videotaped as the forces measured the home and interrogated the family living in it.

Mr Abu Diab stated that the house of Hisham Ayed Qaraeen was also raided and his family was issued a court decision for the demolition of their home.

Abu Diab explained that the Municipal crews are still in the area and that they have raided the shops and houses of El- Mukhtar Ayed, Hamdan Ayed, and Faiz and Nader Abu Diab among others. The raids have been described as brutal, particularly given that only women and children were at home during the hours of the raids, which caused panic and fear among residents.

The Israeli Authorities had previously taken a decision to raze the entire neighbourhood of Silwan and demolish all 88 of its houses in order to make way for Jewish projects in the area.
