February 17, 2014 at 11:14 pm

A spokesman for the Jordanian government has said that the Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas will visit Amman and meet with King Abdullah II. Rakan Majali said that the visit by Khaled Meshaal will take place within the next few days.

According to reports in Al-Ghad newspaper on Wednesday, Meshaal will be accompanied by the Crown Prince of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. After the meeting with the King, the Qatari Prince will leave the country, leaving Meshaal in Amman to hold talks with the Jordanian government.

Mr Majali, who is also Jordan’s Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communication, was keen to stress that his government’s relations with Hamas “don’t come at the expense of Jordan’s relationship with the Palestinian Authority” in Ramallah. He added that Jordan also has positive relations with other Palestinian factions.
