The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ramallah has called the UN Human Rights Council’s adoption of resolutions on Palestine, with a large majority, “another achievement for Palestinian diplomacy”, and said that UN agencies stand with the Palestinians’ right against the occupation and its gross violations of international law.

A statement issued by the Palestinian Authority on Sunday, March 25 said that the resolution on the right of Palestinians to self-determination was adopted by 47 votes; the resolution condemning the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, was adopted by 44 votes; and the decision to send a fact-finding mission to Gaza got through by 29 votes. A further fact-finding mission to look into Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including East Jerusalem, was agreed by 36 votes; its remit will include the devastating effects on the lives of Palestinians.

The PA said that it will monitor the implementation of the decisions, especially those related to the formation of a committee to look at Israeli settlements.
