Palestinian Authority considers suing Lieberman

February 17, 2014 at 11:19 pm

The Palestinian Authority (PA) is giving serious consideration to suing Israel’s Foreign Minister, Avigdor Lieberman, through American, Israeli and European lawyers.

A spokesperson for the PA and PLO announced that legal advisers are mulling over a lawsuit regarding Lieberman’s repeated statements in which he incites people against, and threatens the life of, PA President Mahmoud Abbas.

According to the PA’s political adviser Nimer Hammad, the statements made by someone like Lieberman, who heads the Yisrael Beiteinu Party in Israel as well as being the Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, carry some weight.  His words incite and mobilise extremist forces in Israel, making him appear like a gang leader; Mafia leaders speak about killing their enemies, said Hammad, and have their followers implement the deeds.

“The international community should not remain silent in the face of such incitement,” Hammad added. He pointed out that the PA’s legal advisors will contact US, Israeli and European lawyers to form an international group to start legal proceedings.
