February 17, 2014 at 11:18 pm

A Palestinian parliamentary delegation has spent the week in South Africa following an official invitation from their South African peers. The delegation met with South Africa’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ibrahim, as well as the Minister of Public Works.

Chaired by Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the senior Deputy Chairman of the Palestinian Legislative Council, the delegation included elected PLC members Dr. Marwan Abu Ras and Gamila El-Shanti, as well as Nafez El-Madhoun, the PLC’s Secretary General.

The agenda for the meeting with Mr. Ibrahim included ways that South Africa can support the Palestinian cause and condemn the crimes of the Israeli occupation in international forums. The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed his country’s policy to support the right of the Palestinians to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

During the discussions with Minister of Public Works Nick Cisse, the delegation briefed their South African colleague on the latest situation regarding the destruction caused to the Palestinian infrastructure as a result of Israel’s occupation, siege and aggression.
