The State of Qatar has donated $10 million towards the treatment of Palestinians wounded by Israel’s aggression in Gaza. The treatment will be provided by hospitals in Egypt.

According to the official Qatari news agency, the Emir of Qatar announced the donation during his visit to Egypt. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani met Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi on Saturday to discuss developments in the Gaza Strip. The Emir welcomed Egypt’s initiative to treat the Palestinian victims of Israel’s bombardment, and agreed to contribute towards the cost of their treatment.

At the same time, Qatar is donating urgently needed medical aid, including medicine and disposables, to hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

Sheikh Hamad made a landmark visit to Gaza less than a month ago, during which he pledged $400 million towards the reconstruction of the beleaguered territory, which was devastated by Israel during a three-week assault and invasion in 2008/9.

The latest casualty figures from Gaza are 70 killed, including babies and young children, and more than 600 people wounded, many of them seriously.
