The Palestinian territories have been hit by severe weather conditions which are some of the worst seen this winter. Accidents caused by the freak weather have been reported in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem.

In the occupied Holy City, three large trees in the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque were uprooted by strong winds. In Gaza, meanwhile, 20 houses were damaged when live electricity wires were blown onto them and several trees were uprooted. Ten people were injured in the incident.

The current severe weather was predicted by forecasters in the Palestinian media. The civil defence services were, therefore, already on high alert ready to tackle the effects of the adverse conditions.
