Solidarity tent in support of hunger-striker

There are growing concerns across the Palestinian territories for the life of detainee, Hasan Al Safadi, who has now passed 52 days on hunger strike. Mr Al Safadi is protesting against his continued detention, without any charge, under Israel’s administrative detention law. He was arrested on 28 June 2007.

Al Safadi was detained on several occasions prior to his latest detention. In 1995 he was detained for a year, in 2002 he served another nine months, and in 2004 he served 33 months, all in administration detention.

Al Safadi’s brother, Fareed, was killed by the Israeli forces in 1996. All his remaining brothers, Fuad, Salih and Mamun, have also been detained and wounded by Israeli soldiers. His sister, Naylali, was detained for 18 months.  She is the wife of Obada Bilal, one of the prisoners freed in the recent exchange deal with the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas.
