In a report published on Monday morning (13.09.2010), the Israeli group ‘Peace Now’ revealed Israeli plans to construct 13,000 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank.

According to the group, the plan is due to come into effect at the end of September when the partial freeze on construction in settlements expires. Israeli authorities are set to proceed with the immediate implementation of plans to construct 2,000 settlement housing units ready to be built in forty two settlements within the West Bank territory. This falls within a wider plan to construct 13,000 units which, according to Peace Now, “do not require further authorisation from the government for their construction.”

The report indicates the existence of another 25 settlement housing units that have already received planning consent but are yet to be given the final go-ahead for construction from the Israeli government.
