Algerian initiative to support Jerusalem during Ramadan

February 20, 2014 at 3:33 pm

An organisation in Algeria which offers support for the Palestinian people has announced a series of projects and charity events to support the Holy City of Jerusalem and its Palestinian citizens during the holy month of Ramadan. The Algerian Coalition for Palestine said that its Ramadan initiative fits within the framework of a coordinated campaign to communicate with worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque and help the spirit of Ramadan to permeate the city. A very practical aspect of the campaign is to ease the economic burden faced by Jerusalemites who endure very difficult living conditions.

The Algerian-sponsored programme of events scheduled for the Blessed Month include the provision of collective iftar (food to break the fast) in Al-Aqsa Mosque and for needy Palestinian families in the Old City, and food supplies for those sitting in seclusion (i’tikaaf) in the last ten days of the fasting month. It is planned that the programme will continue during the days of Eidul Fitr after Ramadan with the provision of clothes for orphans and children’s gifts.

The Coalition urged the authorities, human rights organizations and other charities to launch similar initiatives to preserve the Ramadan atmosphere in Jerusalem, saying that donating and giving to the people of the Holy City is like travelling to Al Aqsa Mosque and praying there.
